About us
Protecting Penn Hills with pride and dedication
Our Story
The beginning of Thad Stevens Volunteer Fire House.
The Thad Stevens Volunteer Fire Department, originating in 1929 from humble beginnings, stands today as a beacon of community-driven commitment to fire safety and protection.
Our History
When Thad Steven’s VFD began in 1929, this was the original building. The Fire house was built by our dedicated members. They also established a new community fire department, committed to keeping the people of the community safe.
Being a Firefighter back then
When you became a Thad Steven’s VFD member, you received a bell. This bell would ring, to let you know there was an emergency. Members would then go to the fire house and answer the call, on the Fire Phone. The call was then wrote on the chalkboard, and they would grab their coat and go. Willing to risk their life and safety to help people. They dedicated their time and effort when the community needed it most.
After almost 50 years of service
In 1977, after 48 years of service, the member of Thad Steven’s VFD continued to better the community and the Fire house. They added an addition to the original building, with a larger space for newer and bigger fire trucks. Our fire station was built entirely by the hands of our own members. A symbol of success we are very proud of. We will continue our efforts to improve it every day.
Continued efforts
In 1978, Thad Steven’s VFD members totally remodeled the original side of the building into what is our social hall today.
